Feb. 18th, 2008 @ 04:54 pm WHAT!?!?!?

I started Jury Duty today. The old lady next to me kept burping. I giggled once or twice. But really, what the hell?

Wrestling season is over. We didn't end on a very good note. My afternoons are free though.

I have to post this on my journal to avoid all hell breaking loose. I don't aim this at anyone in particular, but it's been on my mind: A lot of "UT basketball fans" have come out of nowhere, just in time for the winning. I understand it's tough to cheer for a losing team, but now, all of the sudden, they all know EVERYTHING about basketball. It's irritating to someone who's liked and followed college basketball for a long time.

I promise, if you think I'm talking to or about you, you're wrong. The main people I'm referring to don't have Livejournal.

This Saturday is setting up to be HUGE. Unless you've been, or are going to be, in a cave under a rock, you're excited about the Memphis/Tennessee game. #1 vs #2. Already bitter rivals. Tournament seeding could be affected.

I understand there is a really good possibility that UT will beat Memphis. I understand that the SEC is a tougher conference, therefore Tennessee plays a tougher schedule. I understand that the Tigers have their flaws on the court, and Lord knows off. What I don't understand is how anyone can argue that they shouldn't be the number one team in the country. They have to be. Don't they? 25-0. Say what you want about their overall schedule; they play who they can, and win. They score points and play good defense.

If they lose, I will admit I'm wrong. And if it's convincing, I'll admit Tennessee could be or is a better team. However, I don't feel like the other side would do the same...

ive been a memphis basketball fan longer than a ut one (my dad went to tiger high) and on dwells' lj i picked memphis over ut 77-73.

i think it will be an awesome game though, and i hope there isnt any bullshit that gives either team an "excuse" for losing.

that being said though, GO VOLS

I hear you man. I want an awesome game, and I enjoy the intensity of the players AND the fans. I just can't stand whining and ignorant input.

yeah, i'm not really sure how people think an undefeated team who has a 44 game home winning streak and has beaten georgetown, usc, oklahoma, uconn, and gonzaga shouldn't be number 1. it's baffling

Good Sportsmanship

(Permanent Link)
I don't understand why you would feel that UT fans would not admit that Memphis is the better team on that day should they win? It's not like UT is new to a successful basketball program, although I will admit it has only been in flurries and not nearly as storied at that of Memphis' BB history since the late 1960's, even if UT hasn't won an SEC crown outright in more than 40 years. As a UT letterman(swimming)and a person who is all-Vol and living in Memphis, I support the Tigers in every game in every sport except when they play UT. I don't hear my friends disrespecting Memphis, not even when we lose to them. This game is monumental for the State of Tennessee. Let it be well-played and exciting on both sides of the court, and may the teams and fans recognize that on that day one team was better than the other in a good spirit of sportsmanship. There is a chance that the teams could meet again in March.

I agree with you, and I hope both sides display, at the very least, some form of sportsmanship. However, you and your friends are in the minority as far as "disrespecting" Memphis. Both sides are spatting off trash, even when it isn't intelligent or well thought. Besides, it isn't as if Memphis has beaten Tennessee any time recently.

Memphis did beat the Vols in BB two seasons ago, I believe.
